Mildred Faye Sherman

RODNEY, Iowa - Mildred Faye Sherman, 86, of Pleasant View Nursing Home of Whiting, and formerly of Rodney, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 1990, at a hospital in Onawa after a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rodney United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Karen Dearchs officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, near Holly Springs. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Willman Funeral Home at Rodney.

Mrs. Sherman, the former Mildred F. Dowling, was born Feb. 15, 1904, at Wessington Springs, S.D., the daughter of Lafayette and Mary (Hindman) Dowling. She married Nelson T. Sherman Feb. 10, 1921, at Sioux City. The couple farmed near Grant Center. He died Oct. 1, 1967, and she moved into Rodney at that time.

Mrs. Sherman was an active member of Rodney United Church of Christ, Rodney Women's Fellowship, Past Noble Grand Club of Onawa, Hornick American Legion Auxiliary, and Onawa VFW Auxiliary 2694. She was a 50-year member of Ember Rebekah Lodge 486.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Evelyn) Uhl of Onawa and Mrs. Eugene (Sharon) Lloyd of Oto; two brothers, Don Dowling and his wife, Bea, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Leonard Dowling and his wife, Phyllis, of Hornick; six sisters, Hazel Kersey of Oregon City, Ore., Edith Kinnelly and husband, Jim, of Jackson, Neb., Bernice McReynald and husband, Don, of Portland, Ore., Helen Howe of Sioux City, Maxine Nystron of Hornick and Delores Nodstrom and husband, Ray, of Sloan; 11 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Chris Dowling.
