Mrs. Bridget Nealis 1855-1920

Mrs. Bridget Nealis, one of the oldest and most respected resident of Blencoe, died at her home in this city at 5:50 p.m. February 10, 1920, the cause of her death was cancer for which she was operated on at the Mayo Bros Hospital at Rochester, Minn, on October 7, 1920.(1919?) She gradually lost strength after the operation until the end.

Mrs. Nealis was born in Ireland in 1855, and at the age of 10 moved to Avoca, Pa., with her parents. In September she was married to P.J. Nealis, of Avoca, Pa. Three children blessed her marriage, John J., Patrick and Martin F. all deceased. She is survived by two grand children, Margaret and Nellie Nealis, of Primghar, Iowa and three brothers, Jas F. and Michael of Des Moines, Iowa and Anthony of Hartshorne, Okla, and two sisters, Mrs. Don Nelly of Scranton, Pa. and Mrs. Kane of Moosic, Pa.

Her funeral is held Friday morning at 10 a.m. in the high mass of Requim, and was largely attended, by friends and neighbors. Her two sisters, Mrs. Donnelly and Mrs. Kane journeyed from Scranton, Pa., and were in attendance at the funeral also her nephew Gervus Donnelly, and her two grand children, Margaret and Nelly Nealis, accompanied by their mother, Mrs. Hadden of Primghar, her brothers, Jas and wife of Des Moines, Iowa, and Michael were also in attendance.

She was laid to rest in Graceland cemetery beside her husband and son, Martin, who preceded her to the great beyond. She will be greatly missed by her friends and neighbors, who learned to love her for her many good qualities and general disposition.

The pall bearers were W. D. Bassett, Wm. McFarland, Thos Bruin, Frank Swintz, Chas Lee and E. R. McElwain.
