Last Will & Testament

I, Jens Johanson, being a resident of Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, at the age of sixty-nine years, and being possessed of sound and disposing mind and memory, do hereby make, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking any and all wills by me heretofore made.

First:
I direct the payment of all my just debts and the expense of administration of my estate.

Second:
I hereby give, devise and bequeth unto my beloved wife, Ingeborg Johanson, the use for the remainder of her natural life of all the property of which I may die seized, of whatever kind or nature, whether real, personal or mixed. I desire that my said wife accept the provisions of this bequest in lieu of her homestead or other rights or claims to my estate.

Third:
I hereby give, devise and bequeth Nine Hundred Dollars to each of my five living children, as follows, to-wit:

John G. Johanson, residing in Rock Township, Mitchell Co., Iowa
Alfred Johanson, residing in Rock Township, Mitchell Co., Iowa
Mathilda Johanson, residing in Rock Township, Mitchell Co., Iowa
Mrs. Nettie Schoger, residing in Cedar Township, Mitchell Co., Iowa
Mrs. Agnes Christianson, residing in Cedar Township, Mitchell Co., Iowa

This bequest is made to equalize advancements made by me to my deceased daughter, Mrs. Jennie Oursland.

Fourth:
Subject to the provisions of the foregoing paragraphs, I give, devise and bequeath all of the rest and residue of my estate, whether real, personal or mixed, as follows:

One-Sixth of such residue to my son, John G. Johanson

One-Sixth of such residue to my son, Alfred Johanson

One-Sixth of such residue to my daughter, Mathilda Johanson

One-Sixth of such residue to my daughter, Mrs. Nettie Schoger

One-Sixth of such residue to my daughter, Mrs. Agnes Christianson

One-Sixth of such residue to my four grand-children, being the children of my deceased daughter, Mrs. Jennie Oursland;--this bequest to my grandchildren to be divided equally between them, share and share alike. In case of the death of any of the said four grandchildren, it is my will and desire that the share of such child in my estate shall go to his brothers and sisters, surviving, in equal shares.

Fifth:
In case any of the grandchildren named in paragraph fourth hereof may not have arrived at full age at the time of my decease or interest of any such minor grand-child shall be held in trust by my executor until such grand-child may arrive at full age.

Sixth:
I hereby nominate and appoint my son, John G. Johanson, executor to execute the provisions of this will.

The above foregoing instrument consisting of one page of typewritten matter was on the date thereof signed by Jens Johanson and by him declared to be his last will and testament, in the presence of us, who, at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.
