August 18, 1859Rattlesnake Bite. – As Mr. Anthony Jordan was plowing in his field, near this place, on Monday last, he stopped to turn over a sod, and was instantly bit by a rattlesnake on the back of the hand. He immediately attempted to cut out the flesh surrounding the bite, but his knife being dull, he didn’t succeed, further than to cause it to bleed profusely. He then mounted his horse and rode to town. At the drug store, Mr. Small administered to him over a quart of whiskey, before the intoxicating effects became visible; but after some external applications prescribed by Drs. Cobb and Chase, he returned home in a very jolly mood, and at last accounts was doing well. – [Osage Iowan.]
