Charles was born May 10, 1927 in Pleasantville to Frank and Jennie Steiert Nelson.

He graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1944.

Whitey was married to Edna Vander Linden March 19, 1949 in Melcher-Dallas.

He worked and retired from Maytag and was a Union Steward for Local 997.

Whitey is survived by his wife Edna; his children: Cindy (Kevin DeGoey) Nelson of Knoxville, Chuck (Rhonda) Nelson of Melcher-Dallas, and Barry Nelson of Melcher-Dallas; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and his sister Leota Nelson of Melcher-Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Cheryl Nelson
