Forrest Gene Terry was born May 9, 1924 in Pleasantville, Iowa the son of Ray and Mamie (Howsare) Terry.

Forrest was raised on his grandparents’ farm near Pleasantville.

On November 28, 1942 he was united in marriage to Elinor Louise Gilmore in Unionville, Missouri. To this union three children were born: Patricia, Jean Anne and Sandra.

He worked on the farm until moving to Des Moines in the late 40’s. Forrest worked for Swift & Co., which later became Staley and then ADM, until his retirement in the late 80’s.

Elinor passed away in January of 1968 and Forrest later married June Hicks. In 1991 he moved to Pleasantville and purchased his family farm. In 1994 June passed away.

In his spare time, Forrest enjoyed fishing, collecting coins and attending farm auctions. He was a strong and tough man, with a very big heart.

Forrest passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at the Griffin Nursing Center at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 14 days.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mamie Hazel Howsare Shilling; two wives, Elinor and June; brothers, Richard, Marion and Avery; sister, Effie; nephews, Richard and Allen and a grandchild, Adam Hennessey.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Patricia (Jack) Ludgate of Knoxville, Jean Anne (George) Caldwell of Colorado Springs, Sandra (Frank) Lundquist of Urbandale; step-children, Bill (Linda) Hicks of Sibley, Lucine (Terry) Hershberger of Homestead, and John Hicks of Houston; 4 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evalene Paxton of Humeston.
