Witter, Madonna M. (Mitchell) 1920-2009

Madonna Mae Witter was born December 28, 1920 in Marion County, Iowa the daughter of Charlie Mitchell and Lillie (Cavin) Mitchell.

She was raised in the Gosport area and went to work at the county home as a young lady. Madonna then worked at the Continental Overall Factory for a few years.

On September 16, 1941 Madonna was united in marriage to Earl LaVerne Witter in Knoxville. The couple farmed east of Knoxville for many years. In later years they moved to the Pella area and Madonna worked for Pella Corp for 25 years prior to retirement. The couple moved back to Knoxville in 1995.

In her spare time, Madonna enjoyed growing roses and doing embroidery. She had embroidered dish towels and pillow cases for all her grandchildren. She was a great cook and her family especially loved her fried chicken. Madonna was a member of the Open Bible Church, where she and Earl served as custodians for many years.

Madonna passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at the West Ridge Nursing Center at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 21 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Eugene; husband, Earl and her siblings: Hale, Robert, Clarence, Charles and Mattie Lou Mitchell and Lorraine Becker.

Those left to honor her memory include her children: Jerry Witter (Janice) of Pella, Joyce Van Kooten (Gary) of Leighton and Greg Witter of Pleasantville; daughter-in-law, Vicki Witter of Blair, Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dorothy Carter (Gerald) of Knoxville, Helen Couchman (Jim) of Fort Worth, Texas and Lee Mitchell (Yvonne) of Knoxville and many other family members and friends.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery
