Robert E. Brent was born June 17, 1917 in Pleasantville, Iowa, the son of Walter Brent and Pearl Lamar Brent.

He attended school in Pleasantville and later enlisted in the United States Navy in September of 1942. Robert was stationed on the New Caledonia during WWII and was honorably discharged in October of 1945.

He was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Martin on July 25, 1945 at the Naval Air Station at Ottumwa, Iowa. They farmed near Pleasantville and Robert also worked at the Knoxville VA Medical Center.

Robert enjoyed being a farmer and was very proud of his native prairie grass he planted with Mary. He was also quite a fix-it man that never really took time to sit down.

He passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the Comfort House in Pella at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 1 day.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, brothers, Paul, Fred, Hubert and a sister Daisy Harkin.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, John (Linda) of Shawnee, KS, Stephen of Pleasantville, Barbara Woodard of Ankeny, Mary Jane (Michael) Narog of Chanhassen, MN, Kevin (Shelley) of Altoona; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, along with other relatives and many friends.
