Paul Edwin Wright was born September 5, 1929 in Irwin, Iowa, the son of Murl Smith and Viola LaVerne Zimmer.

Paul attended school in Carroll, Beaver and Rippey as a child. On March 14, 1951 Paul enlisted in the United States Army. He served until he was honorably discharged as a Corporal on March, 13, 1953.

Paul was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Nelson on April 18, 1957 in Knoxville, Iowa.

He was later united in marriage to Hattie Lavinia Crozier on February 12, 1965 in Knoxville, Iowa.

Paul called Des Moines home from 1947 to 1993 until he and Lavinia moved to Knoxville in 1993.
Paul was a very warm and caring person. He will be remembered for all he did for Kiwanis, Good Sam Club, Knoxville Senior Center and his church.

Paul worked for ACME Piano and Organ in Des Moines for 26 years and for True Value Hardware Store in Knoxville for 10 years. His family will treasure the woodworking pieces he made for them as a lasting legacy.

Paul passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at West Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 17 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, brother, John Wright, sister, Mildred Gehlsen, and a son-in-law, Craig Ver Huel.

Survivors include his wife, Lavinia; daughters, Vikki Ver Huel and Tamie (Keith) Mullen both of Ankeny; son, Ward Allen (Cathey) Wright of Indianola; grandchildren, Craig (Alicia) Ver Huel, Jr. of Ankeny, Angie (Matt) Reinhold of Waukee, Amanda Mullen of Ankeny, Mandy (Dustin) Howard of Des Moines, Geoff Anderson of Des Moines; 2 great-granddaughters; siblings, Frank (Sallie) Wright of Des Moines, Gary (Peggy) Wright of Alabama, Marvin (Rosella) Smith of Council Bluffs, Bob (Cindy) Smith of Long Mont, Colorado, Marjorie (John) Benge of Manilla, along with other relatives and many friends.

Burial: Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, IA
