James Curtis Miller was born September 22, 1938 in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Wilbur Miller and Fern (Stahl) Miller.

James grew up in the Knoxville area. He was united in marriage to Bette Allen on June 6, 1972 in Rock Island, Illinois. James worked for the Black Hawk Foundry in Davenport for 25 years. He then went on to work at Vermeer’s, Design Home and Clow before his health caused him to retire.

Spending his spare time fishing, working on bikes and playing a few hands of cards were things that he enjoyed. James also loved riding his moped around and picking up cans. He also was known to spoil his grandchildren rotten and for giving each of them a nick name. Over the years James also had a few nick names of his own including, Frog and Beacon Boy.

James passed away on Friday, June 19, 2009 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 28 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jimmy Miller, granddaughter, Jessica Miller, grandson, James Miller, sister, Joyce Sanders, two brothers in infancy and a sister-in-law, Connie Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Bette, children; Curtis (Barbara) Miller of Oskaloosa, Cathy Miller (Mike Long) of Tracy, Rich (Kristal) Miller of Evans, Jerry (Rhonda) Miller of Indianola, Donnie Mason of Des Moines, Dawn LeeMaster of Cincinnati; brothers, Robert Miller of Eddyville, Jarman Miller of Pershing; 16 grandchildren along with nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
