Francis Joseph Glick, 91, of Knoxville, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 in the hospice room at the Knoxville Community Hospital.

Francis (also known as Dan by close friends and relatives) was born on August 5, 1917 in Galena, Illinois to Anthony and Leola (Promenshenkel) Glick. He had two brothers, Paul and James, and one sister Edith. He graduated from Freeport, Illinois High School in 1938 where he played all sports. After graduation, he worked for Henney-Packard Motor Company.

In 1941 Dan enlisted and served in the United States Air Force as the radio operator and gunner in the B-17 Bomber flying missions from the East Coast to the Virgin Islands and also served as an Administrative Clerk.

Dan was discharged from the service in October, 1945 and on June 1, 1947, was united in marriage to Rogene Ellen Dunseth of Freeport, Illinois. To this union, three sons were born, Ronald, David and Stephen.

He worked as a District Salesman for Holland Furnace Company and in 1958 took a job working for Waddel & Reed as a registered representative selling stocks and mutual funds. He worked the last 40 years for All American Management and FSC. Dan moved the family to Knoxville in 1960.

He retired from financial planning in 2005. Dan was involved with the Lions Club as a Charter Member since 1970, served as President and also received the Warren Coleman Honorary Award. He enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards and taking fishing trips to Canada with friends and family. He also enjoyed big band dancing with his companion of 20 years, Beatrice Anderson of Pleasant Hill. They enjoyed spending time with their close circle of friends and many winters in Pompano Beach, Florida.

His infectious smile, firm hand shake and attitude towards life. Dan never knew a stranger, and always loved to meet new friends. He will be missed by many.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister, wife Rogene in 1984 and son Ronald in 2001.

He is survived by daughter-in-law Susan Glick of Indianola, sons David (Pam) Glick and Stephen (Cindy) Glick both of Knoxville, grandchildren Lisa Darling of Cliffside Park, New Jersey, Julie (Rich) Parker of Indianola, Holly (Elijah) Reid of Blaine, Minnesota, Brian (Jennifer) Glick of Knoxville and Jared (Erin) Glick of Belle Plaine, Minnesota and Kylie and Tyler Glick of Knoxville. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren, Emily, Luke and Hayden Parker, Colton and Remington Glick, and Elliana Reid.
