McVey, Pearl "Bud" 1927-2008

Pearl Elvia “Bud” McVey was born December 23, 1927 in Osceola, Iowa the son of Pearl Marvin McVey and Ruth (Gordon) McVey.

He was raised in Osceola and served in the Army during World War II. On February 8, 1948 he was united in marriage to Goldie Allen in Des Moines. They lived in Des Moines all their married lives with the exception of three years in Seattle, Washington. He worked for Iowa Casket Company for several years. Bud’s career was spent protecting and serving his fellowman as a police officer for the City of Des Moines from 1948 to 1983. Through the years he worked as a Patrolman, Detective and retired from the Vice-Squad. Following his retirement from the police department he became a Federal Marshall for six years.

In his spare time, he enjoyed building furniture and other woodworking, remodeling his home, and fishing. He also loved his dog, Cleo. Bud greatest joy was his family; he will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He was a member of the Retired Policeman’s Association, the AMVETS and the V.F.W.

Bud passed away on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center at the age of 80 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mike; sister, Gloria Carter and his step-mother, Annie McVey.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Goldie of Des Moines; two sons, David (Sue) of Des Moines and Larry (Dorothy) of Seattle, Washington; 10 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four sisters: Frances Shank of Des Moines, May Gilson of Knoxville, Wand Kern and Anna Jane and a half-brother, Royal McVey of Des Moines.

Bud has been cremated and graveside military services will be held at The Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery, in Van Meter, at a later date.
