Robert DeWayne McCarty was born December 13, 1926 in Davis County, Iowa the son of Charles Winfred McCarty and Marguerite (Roemerman) McCarty.

He was raised in Davis and Appanoose counties and graduated from Unionville High School with the Class of 1946. On November 9, 1951 he was united in marriage to Joyce Mary Lister at the Methodist Church in Centerville.

DeWayne farmed, operated heavy equipment and worked at Maytag before being employed by the V.A. Medical Center. He was an X-Ray Technician when he retired from the V.A. in 1990.

In their spare time, DeWayne and Joyce enjoyed boating, traveling, R.V.ing and wintering in South Texas. They also square-danced for many years. DeWayne will be remembered as a hard worker and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

DeWayne passed away on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 82 years and 2 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Franklin.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joyce; two children, David McCarty of Marshalltown and Pam Prichard (Clyde, Jr.) of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Sonny and Shanna Prichard and his sister, Mary Kathryn Clark of New London and many other family members and friends.
