Mable Louise Rowley was born November 6, 1911 in Knoxville, Iowa; the daughter of Gertrude Eva Mallory and John J. Dykstra. She grew up in Green City, Missouri and graduated from high school in 1929. Mabel attended Kirksville Teachers College and later taught in rural schools in Missouri and Knoxville.

On September 19, 1934 she was united in marriage to Philip E. Crouch in Knoxville. She later married Irvin Rowley on November 6, 1964.

Mabel spent most of her life farming, working as a nurse’s aide at Collins Hospital, and also as a clerk at Peoples’ Store.

Mabel’s favorite hobbies included crocheting, knitting and bird watching. She made hot pads and afghans for all family members. Mabel was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. She was very generous in her contributions to her church, Marion County 4-H, and Dollars for Scholars.

Mable Louise Rowley died on June 16, 2009 at Griffin Nursing Center, Knoxville, Iowa at the age of 97 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two husbands, one brother, Leo Dykstra and one sister, Ruth Bankus.

Those left to mourn her passing are one sister-in-law, Doris Dykstra of Knoxville; 4 step-sons and their wives: Dean and Shirley Rowley of Altoona, Myrle and Betty Rowley of South Bend, Indiana, Larry and RoseAnn Rowley of Knoxville and Gary and Teresa Rowley of Knoxville; 2 step-daughters and their husbands, Louise and Melvin Dennison and Darlene and John Scott both of Knoxville; numerous step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marion County 4-H Foundation or the First United Methodist Church Education Endowment Fund, Knoxville, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville with Rev. Brent Hanna officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Musical selections were “Beyond the Sunset”, “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” and “In the Garden.” Geoff Shultz was the organist. Ted Dykstra Jr. was the vocalist. Casket bearers were Fred Bankus, Gene Dennison, John Haning, Dale Rowley, Dennis Rowley, Roger Rowley, Jeff Scott and Lane Williams. Williams Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
