Florence May Cronbaugh was born October 9, 1927 on the family farm in Pilot Township, near Williamsburg, Iowa. She was one of four children born to Alice Collingwood and Arthur Mumm. Florence attended rural school near Williamsburg where she grew up.

Florence was united in marriage to William “Bill” Marion Cronbaugh January 11, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. To this union one daughter was born, Sandi.

Florence was an excellent cook. She worked for various restaurants in Knoxville such as Runt’s Steak House, The Shamrock Café, Corner Café and Wolf’s Cottage over the years; usually baking pies and cooking. Florence also worked at the Royal Pastry Shop.

Florence loved animals. In her younger years she had dogs and in later years, cats. Florence always had a vegetable garden and canned enough for her family and Sandi’s. She also planted a variety of flowers in her garden. Florence had friends that traveled together; taking day trips several times each year.

Florence May Cronbaugh passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Griffin’s Nursing Center at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 12 days.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband.

Those left to mourn her passing are her daughter and son-in-law, Sandi and Wayne Petersen of Knoxville; one daughter, Michelle Petersen and her life companion, Kathy Petersen of Belton, TX; two grandsons, Mike Petersen of Knoxville and Matt Petersen of Newton; twin great-grandsons, Kole and Kyler Petersen of Bolton, TX; two sisters, Irene Siems and her husband, Noel of Amana and Marcella Martinson of Marion; and one brother, Dwight Mumm and his wife, Joyce of Williamsburg.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Williams Funeral Home with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Musical selections were “In the Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Janet Westberg was the vocalist. Jim Kidder was the organist. Casket bearers were Gary Bosenberg, Bob Dralle, Larry Martinson, Steve Mumm, Mike Petersen and Dave VanderHart.
