Betty Lorraine Chambers was born March 19, 1924 in Knoxville, IA. She was one of four children born to Nellie Ver Steeg and James Croll. Betty attended school and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1942.

On July 17, 1943 Betty was united in marriage to Alfred Harold Chambers. To this union 1 son was born.

Betty was a homemaker and care giver. When her mother became ill, Betty took her into her own home and cared for her until her mother’s passing. Betty dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her greatest joy. She babysat for the grandchildren for many years. Betty and Harold moved to Park Lane Assisted Living in December 2007.

Betty was an avid sports fan. She loved the Iowa Hawkeyes. One of the advantages of moving to Park Lane Village was watching the many sports programs on cable TV. Betty also enjoyed discussing sports with her dinner partners. She lived her entire life in Knoxville.

Betty passed away Tuesday. March 24, 2009 at Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 85 yrs. and 5 days.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Norris, Raymond and Kenneth Croll.

Betty is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harold; 1 son, Mike Chambers and his wife, Teri of Knoxville; 2 grandchildren, Kristi Parks and her husband, Tony of Knoxville and Kade Chambers and his wife, Tina of Knoxville; 5 great-grandchildren, Logan and Tanner Chambers, Emily Ensor and Madison and Bailey Parks of Knoxville; 6 brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward Chambers and his wife, Doris of Oskaloosa, Maxyne Chambers of Columbia, Randle Chambers and his wife, Berneil of Knoxville, Lila Donohue and her husband, Dean of Knoxville, Jean Vande Kamp and her husband, Bill of Knoxville, Ray Chambers and his wife, Phyllis of Knoxville.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 27, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Mead officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Bill, Randy, Terry and Tim Chambers, Curt Donohue and Steve Vande Kamp. Honorary casket bearers were Logan, Tanner and Kade Chambers and Larry Nicholson. Musical selections were “Lord, I Lift Your Name On High”, “There’s Something About That Name”, and “To God Be The Glory”. Janet Westberg was the vocalist. Christine Meyers was the organist.
