LEEPER, ARGO, MILLEDGE

James Warren Leeper was born on January 14, 1922 in Pleasanton, Iowa He was the son of William Robert and Una Vivian (Argo) Leeper. James entered his heavenly home on April 5, 2009. James was raised and remained in the Knoxville and Harvey area his entire life. He was a member of the United States Army, stationed in the South Pacific during WWII.

James was united in marriage to his forever love, Marvania Mae Milledge on February 22, 1947. Together they were blessed with 4 sons and a loving family.

James retired from the Maytag Company after 31.8 years. Although retired, James remained busy. He was a dedicated member and officer in the Harvey United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was an avid gardener, card player and canvas cross stitcher. He generously distributed his works among friends and family. James loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, picking berries, walnut cleaning and was a Knoxville High School baseball umpire for many years. James’ signature handshake to his grandchildren and others, especially children, left a piece of candy in their hand. His greatest joys were his wife, 4 sons and his grandchildren. His family will miss his stories, joking, laughing and most of all his companionship.

Those left to celebrate his life are his wife of 62 years, Marvania of Harvey; 4 sons, Glen and Ruth Leeper of Clemons, Gary and Cheryl Leeper of Two Harbors, MN, Dale and Susan Leeper of Lufkin, TX, and David and Marcy Leeper of Harvey; 3 brothers and their wives, Paul Ronald and Wanda Leeper of Altoona, Richard and Jean Leeper of Mount Pleasant, and Leland and Lila Williams of Pleasantville; and 10 grandchildren, Amy, Drew, Cole, Jennifer, Joe, Erica, Tracy, Tanya, Scott, Monica, Tanya and their families. He also is survived by many friends and family.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 4 brothers, Robert Leeper, Roscoe Leeper, Charles Leeper and Walter Leeper.

Funeral services were held April 10, 2009 at the Harvey Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Hall and Rev. Brian Hotrum officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville followed by a lunch at the Harvey Community Center.

Musical selections were “The Hymn of Promise” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. The Larry and Olive Milledge Family provided the music. Casket bearers were Cole, Dale, David, Drew, Gary, Glen, Joe and Scott Leeper. Honorary casket bearers were Tracy Bobbitt, Erica Cheshire, Tanya Darling, Jennifer Leeper, Amy Robbins, and Monica White.
