SPANISH WAR VETERAN DIES

Harvey Darrah Stricken With Paralysis Suddenly Sunday Evening.

Harvey Darrah died suddenly Sunday evening about 8 o'clock, while coming home from an afternoon spent west of town. Mr. Darrah with some of his companions had been out on Whitebreast creek and were coming home at dusk. On reaching a point about half a mile west of the Burlington depot, Mr. Darrah sat down on a rail and suddenly fell back. When his companions picked him up he was dead. It is supposed he suffered a stroke of paralysis.

Harvey W. Darrah, son of Solomon and Delilah Darrah, was born in Lucas county, May 15, 1875. He was at the time of his death aged 43 years, 4 months and 7 days. He moved to this city in 1887, having lived here the remaineder of his life. He enlisted in the Spanish-American war, serving in the Philippine Islands with Company D from May 20, 1898, until September of the same year, when he was discharged for physical disability at San Francisco, Calif.

The deceased was united in marriage to Miss May Derry, March 21, 1900. He united with the Christian church in 1894. He is survived by his widow, his mother, one sister, Mrs. Etta Moorehead, of Olmitz; two brothers, Milo, of Knoxville and David, of Lucas county.

The funeral services were held at the home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Paul E. Becker, of the Christian church. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery, north of town.
