PRIAULX

Died, at their home in Indiana township Friday, November 30, 1900, of blood poison, Mrs. Lizzie D., wife of John Priaulx, age 22 years, 6 months and 15 days. She had been sick for several weeks and leaves a young son, Loyd O. to the tender care of the stricken father.

There is an old saying that troubles never come single. Mr. and Mrs. Priaulx were married July 3, 1898, and before many weeks had passed they were the principal parties in a very exciting and dangerous runaway and she somewhat injured. February lst their oldest son Ottis M. passed away. A little later Mr. Priaulx was over taken by a very severe sickness from which he has just now recovered. During all this affliction the neighbors and friends of the family have been most kind and this fact has been most deeply felt by Mr. Priaulx. Deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Edwards of Bussey. The funeral occurred from the M.E. church in Attica. Interment at Indiana Chapel. Services conducted by Rev. Dunlavy and Rev. Geddes.

The following beautiful poem has been furnished us by friends and is one which Mrs. Priaulx was often called upon to recite in public. The sentiment herein contained very aptly represents the characteristics of the departed one:

WHAT I LIVE FOR.
By George Linneus Banks.

I live for those who love me,
Whose hearts are kind and true.
For the heaven that smiles above me,
And awaits my spirit, too;
For the human ties that bind me,
For the task by God assigned me,
For the bright hopes left behind me,
And the good that I can do.

I live to learn their story
Who've suffered for my sake,
To emulate their glory,
And to follow in their wake;
Bards, patriots, martyrs, sages,
The noble of all ages,
Whose deeds crowd history's pages,
And Time's great volume make.

I live to hold communion
With all that is divine,
To feel there is a union
Twixt Nature's heart and mine;
To profit by affliction,
Reap truths from fields of fiction,
Grow wiser from conviction,
And fulfill each grand design.

I live to hail that season,
By gifted minds foretold,
When men shall rule by reason,
And not alone by gold;
When man to man united,
And every wrong thing righted.
The whole world shall be lighted
As Eden was of old.

I live for those who love me,
For those who know me true,
For the heaven that smiles above me,
And awaits my spirit, too;
For the cause that lacks assistance,
For the wrong that needs resistance,
For the future in the distance,
And the good that I can do.
