Fry, Joseph Alfred – 1867-1949

Joseph Alfred Fry, son of William and Rebecca Horning Fry, was born in Liverpool, Pennsylvania, May 3, 1867 and died at his home south of Pershing, Friday, June 17, 1949 at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 14 days.
Mr. Fry started to work at an early age, working as tow-boy on the Erie canal. Later, he entered the coalfields at Coalport, Penna., and came to Evans, October 25, 1892 where he entered the mines. He made coal mining his occupation, serving as mine foreman for many years at Everist and Pershing; his last work was at the Pershing mine No. 12 in 1938.
The deceased was married to Mary Ann McMorran, May 3, 1896. To this union eight children were born. Surviving are his widow and children, Mrs. Mary Harrington of Harvey; William of Tracy; Mrs. Blanche Ryerson of Pershing; Mrs. Ethel Bridges of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Myrtle Moses of Burlington and Mrs. Edna Moses of Oskaloosa; twenty-two grandchildren; two brothers, William and Leroy Fry of Philadelphia, Penna.; one sister, Mrs. Blanche Keiter of Port Royal, Penna.
Preceding him in death were his mother and father, three brothers, five sisters, two sons and four grandchildren.
Mr. Fry was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges and a member of the Coalport church, Coalport, Penna.
Funeral services were held from the Zion church Sunday afternoon, at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. I. G. Wilkins and burial was made in the Breckinridge cemetery under auspices of the Gavel Masonic Lodge No. 229 of Attica.
