Millie Winifred Donley Baker was born October 12, 1867, at Knoxville, Iowa, and passed away Sept. 29, 1944, at her home, 4300 Pleasant St., Des Moines, Iowa.
Mrs. Baker was the daughter of the late Levi Oliver Donley, well known throughout Marion county as a farmer, stock-buyer and county treasurer. Her mother was Mary Elizabeth (Davenport) Donley, suffragist, temperance lecturer and writer. Mrs. Baker was of Revolutionary War ancestry and a member of the Knoxville Chapter D.A.R. She was a P.E.O., and a member of the Methodist church.
On March 3, 1898, she married Frank Darius Baker. They lived in Chicago, Ill., where Mr. Baker was in the building and real estate business. Because of his ill health the Bakers returned to Knoxville, and later moved to Des Moines where Mr. Baker died in 1929.
Mrs. Baker had a kindly and charming personality and leaves a host of friends.
She is survived by one sister, Miss LouEm Donley who lived with her, a brother, Patrick Henry Donley, and a sister, Mrs. Sallie M. Collins, preceded her in death, Bruce Crozier of Clinton, Iowa, and Donley Collins of Milwaukee, Wis., nephews, and a niece, Eleanor Donley Fraser of Cleveland, Ohio. Other nephews and nieces are Jackson Donley of Cleveland, Richard Donley of Milwaukee, Robert and Morris Donley, overseas, Mrs. Angileen Cloe of Knoxville, and Lucretia E. Garretson, Miss Nora Davenport, Miss Grace Forsythe and Frank Forsythe are cousins.
Funeral services were held at the Bybee-Davis funeral home Monday, October 2, 1944 at 2 p.m., in charge of the Rev. John F. Rex, pastor of the Knoxville Methodist church.
Interment was in Graceland cemetery.
