Gerrit H. Vande Kieft, son of Hendrik Vande Kieft and Jennie Peppel, was born near Pella, Ia., Feb. 12, 1876, and died on Sept. 17, 1944, at a hospital in Oskaloosa, Ia., at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 5 days. As a child, he moved to Shelby county with his parents, where they lived for 15 years, when they returned to Pella, near which he has since resided.
On Jan. 6, 1904, he was united in marriage to Jennie Myers and to this union 5 children were born, 2 sons and 3 daughters; Mrs. Arnold Schippers, of Near Prairie City, Leonard of Des Moines, Mrs. Lambert Berg, Knoxville, Dick, who is in the U.S. Navy, and Verna who is at home.
He is survived by his widow, 5 children, 5 grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Kool, Mrs. C. Muilenberg, Pella, Mrs. Wm. Van Waardhuizen, Otley, and a hops of friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the cooperative Funeral Chapel in Pella, Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1944 at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. G. S. Bruland, Des Moines, in charge. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery.
