Death of Miles W. Cooper

Last Friday night at about 12 o’clock, Miles W. Cooper passed away in this city at the home of his son, W. A. Cooper. For the past five years his health gradually failed and the last two years he was a confirmed invalid.

Mr. Cooper was born August 9, 1829, near Angelica, Allegheny county, N. Y. He was married to Fannie M. Scott at Mt. Morris, N. Y., September 1, 1849. To this union six children were born, four of whom, with their mother, survive. The children living are R. E. Cooper of Farmington, N. M., W. A. Cooper of this city, Mrs. H. C. Browning of Beeler, Kansas, and E. S. Cooper of Island Pond, Vt.

It was seventeen years ago that Mr. Cooper came to Kansas and settled on a farm near Palco, but in Graham county. There he resided 11 years when he moved to Woodston. After three years residence there he came to Stockton. Last fall he and his wife went to live with her son, W. A. Cooper, and family.

Everyone who knew Grandpa Cooper could not help but admire him, for he was a man who closely observed the golden rule and in all his dealings he was thoroughly honest. While the whole family mourn his death no one misses him like Grandma Cooper with whom he lived for 55 years. Throughout their married life they were lovers, always, and during the last years of his life she gave him the best of care, never tiring nor becoming impatient.

Funeral services were held from the home Sunday at 3 o’clock, Dr. Dougherty officiating. He read the 99th Psalm and followed with a short sermon full of comforting words to the bereaved wife and children.

The pall bearers were A. J. Lyons, D. Wyatt, Z. A. Higgins, John Maddy, Judge Moore and D. N. Hamilton. Interment took place at the Stockton cemetery.
