January 6, 1946 - July 16, 2023Kansas City, Kansas - Janet “Jan” Schulze was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on July 16, 2023, at the age of 77. She was born to Andrew G. Smith and Mildred (Smith) McKee, on January 6, 1946, in Maryville, Missouri.
Setting the stage for her love of travel, she and her sister Barb moved with their mother to Colorado for several years and then journeyed to Winterset, Iowa in 1952. She and the twin stepbrother and stepsister, Maurice and Sharon McKee, went through school together in Winterset until they graduated in 1964. While in Winterset, Jan met and married John Owens in September of that year. Their sons, Robert and Michael were born in 1967 and 1969 respectively. In 1977, the family moved to Kansas City where she resided until her passing.
On July 6, 1990, she married Hartmut Schulze and spent the next 33 years cooking and taking excursions together. Her family expanded to include 3 stepsons and a stepdaughter. Rodney, Jon, Robert, and Michelle. Grandchildren include Levi (Michael), Jacob, Joshua, Rachel (Rob), Brett, Jeremy, Hannah, Morgan, Heidi, Leisl, Kora (Rodney), John, Rose (Jon), Courtney, Lee, Kaleigh, Jake, Joshua (Michelle).Jan liked to travel, cook, craft, shop online, and most importantly, make porcelain dolls. Her homes were always filled with dolls she made from scratch. If you were ever a recipient of one of her dolls, you knew that you were being given something made and filled with love.
Memorial services for Jan will be on Wednesday, July 19th at 10:00 AM at Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon, Kansas. Memorial contributions in memory of Jan may be made to St. Lukes Hospice House, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS 66451.
