Harry was born May 16, 1933, to Art and Edith (Lewis) Sackett at home in rural Adair County, Iowa. Harry attended Grove Township rural school and graduated from Greenfield High School with the class of 1952. Following high school, he went into the family farming business before volunteering for the United States Army in 1954. During this time, he was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Following his honorable discharge on January 5, 1956, Harry returned home to the family farm and formed a partnership with his father. He was united in marriage to Sharon Schultz on October 12, 1957, in Truro, Iowa at the Truro United Methodist Church. To this union two children were born, Sandra and Allen. Following their marriage, they made their home on the family farm where they farmed northeast of Greenfield. He was a member of Farm Bureau and served as Grove Township Clerk for 40 years. Harry worked at the Winterset and Orient Sale Barns and also worked at Cardinal IG in Greenfield for over 12 years. Following his retirement, Harry couldn’t sit idle, so he started raising chickens and harvesting a rather large garden that his family and many friends enjoyed through the years. Harry was proud to be one of the active members in restoring Loucks Grove Church where they held services for many years until the church closed. He and his wife Sharon then joined the First Congregational Church where they have attended for several years. Harry and Sharon enjoyed going to bluegrass festivals and taking road trips together. Due to his passion for the outdoors, Harry loved deer and squirrel hunting, fishing for catfish in Middle River, and gardening. He also enjoyed watching football and most other sporting events, playing a good game of pitch or pinochle, taking the family out to eat, playing pool, and spending as much time as he could with his family and friends.

Harry is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, LeRoy (DeVonna) Sackett, Velma (Don) Tiedeman, Arlene (Earl) Bunce, Vera Schneider, sister-in-law Gay Sackett and brother-in-law, Larry Maynes.

Harry leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Sharon of Greenfield; children, Sandra (Tim) Rutter of Winterset, and Allen (Lauri) Sackett of Ankeny; grandchildren, Shannon (Dave) McMillen, Melissa (Andy) Keller, Kelli (Shaun) Sparks, Dustin (Katie) Baudler, Jared (Kaci) Sackett, and Jenna (Steven) Turk; great grandchildren, Lily McMillen, Gracie McMillen, BreAnne (John) Holliday, Tucker Keller, Cora Keller, Callista Baudler, Emma Baudler, Trentyn Baudler, Lucas Baudler, Tannah Sweeney, Kyla Sweeney, Emmie Sparks, Jocelyn Sparks, Tyler Sparks, Destiny Sparks, Nadia Sparks, Cielo Sparks, Luzero Sparks, Eli Sparks, Kaida Sparks and Dessa Sparks; great-great grandchildren, Riley Scheetz, Presley Scheetz, Stella Holliday and Bowie Holliday; brother, Frank Sackett; sister, Lou Maynes; brother-in-law Dick Schneider, and a host of other family members and friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
