Catnip Ridge, February 27- Samuel H. Wolford, whose death we made mention of in last week's letter, was born December 29, 1840, in Allegany county, Md. and died at his home in Springfield, Mo. February 18, 1899, being 58 years, 1 month and 20 days old. He was married to Sarah Center, October 25, 1866, in Cochocton county, Ohio, and came to Cone in 1800 and finally engaged in the mercantile business. He was a partner with his brother Rufus a period of time; then was employed as clerk for S. Northey and remained a good neighbor and citizen of Cone until 1855 when he moved with his family to Bolivor, Mo. He was engaged in mercantile business while there.

Sickness visited his family and resulted in taking one of his daughters, (damaged text) where he was employed in the general depot, working in the yards, up to the time of last sickness. On Tuesday evening he left his working place with a severe chill; a doctor was summoned and his was pronounced a light case of pneumonia. But he grew worse day by day until Saturday morning at 5 o'clock he closed his eyes in a calm repose that knows no awakening.

His beloved wife preceded him to the spirit world the 24th of November one year ago. He leaves four children, two of who are married. The youngest is 11 years. She and her sister will make their home with their married sister, Mrs. Jonnie Allen, known to all Conesville people. His funeral was held at the house by Rev. W. Finch. While residing in Cone Mr. Wolford and family belonged to the Reformed church. In Missouri they united with the Congregationalist. His suffering was very great. His body was laid to rest in the Hazelwood cemetery beside his wife. Mr. Wolford leaves six brothers to mourn his loss besides a host of friends here and where he resided. His aged mother of 83 years was buried December 2, last in the Lone Tree cemetery.
