Orono, May 23 - Thomas Pomeroy, an old settler and an old soldier, passed from earth away to the great beyond Friday morning, Mary 20, 1898. He was born Sept. 9, 1830. Deceased had been in failing health for some time, but for several weeks past had been a great sufferer, and expressed a desire to depart and be at rest.

Besides his mother, who is more than 80 years of age, he leaves several brothers and sisters and a number of nieces and nephews and friends who mourn his departure. Funeral services were in charge of Shelby Norman Post G. A. R. His pastor, Rev. Fouse preached the sermon at the Reformed church, which was crowded to its fullest capacity, and as the sun was going toward the western horizon Sunday, May 22, his comrades laid the mortal remains in its last resting place in the Brockway cemetery.
