Merrett Morgan Mott, one of the oldest photographers in Anamosa, was born in Cortland County, NY, Feb. 21,1844. He came to Iowa and located in Fairview in the early sixties. Here he engaged in the blacksmith business, which he later gave up for the photographic business. He was as adept in this work.In 1858, Mr. Mott was married to Miss Elizabeth Cromwell. To this union were born two children, Catherine, who was recently married to William Richardson, and Wallace A., who lives at Hale. After the death of his first wife, he was married to Miss Amelia Taylor. Two children were born of this marriage, Mamie and John.
Mr. Mott died at his home on West Main Street on last Saturday, after an illness of several weeks. The funeral was held at the residence on Tuesday. Rev. H White, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating, with interment in Wilcox Cemetery.

Philander Mott was born near Shellrush, in Herkimer County, New York, December 19,1817, and died at Fairview, Iowa, December 16, 1903, aged 85 years, 11 months and 17 days. He was married to Harriet M Rowe, September 30, 1838. To this union were born three children, one son and two daughters. Mr. Mott experienced religion when about thirty years of age, and although never uniting with any church was for many years an earnest worker in the M E church at McGrawville, New York.In 1865, he and his wife visited his son in Fairview, and in 1867 moved there and continued to reside there since. He served a term as justice of the peace. Was honorable and upright in all his dealings with his fellow men. He leaves a wife and one son, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and many friends to mourn his death.
The funeral was held from the Fairview M E church, Friday, December 18 conducted by Rev. F H Wyrick. The body was laid to rest in Wilcox cemetery.The Anamosa Eureka had just a couple of sentences about Merrett Mott's father passing away.
The Cedar Rapids newspapers did not have obits for either man.
