My relation was Thomas Holmes, an Englishman who came to Jones County after living in Clinton County for several years. He was not, as far as I know, related to Judge Holmes. I would like to know the details of the notorious Calf case to see if it was the reason he moved his family across the state to homestead in O'Brien County in 1871.
