In Response To: 1870 Calf case litigation (Sue Miller)

p 503 1879 History of Jones Co.
The Baptist Church, which, in the early history of Wyoming (Jones Co., IA) had an existence here was organized on Pleasant Ridge, at the house of Judge Holmes, by his father, Rev. Luther Holmes, in 1852.
Rev Luther Holmes located on Pleasant Ridge in 1851, and died in 1858. He was among the first resident ministers in the township..... He died at the age of 70 years.

In Robert Foster's 1910 County History writeup, there is about 2 pages about the Jones Co. Calf Case. I do not see Judge Holmes mentioned.

The Palminest Magazine has a detailed writeup about this case. You can see this magazine at the Iowa State Historical Libraries in Des Moines and Iowa City. Also, I believe the Iowa Genealogial Society in Des Moines has this magazine.
