Mike was born November 11, 1948, in Iowa City, the son of Earle “Bud” and Kathryn “Katie” Scheetz. In 1966 he graduated from Clear Creek High School then served in the United States Army National Guard from 1967 to 1993, retiring as a Master Sergeant. On July 11, 1970, he married Nancy Hall and together they had four children.

In 1972 Mike graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and served as a Deputy with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. He attended the FBI Academy and graduated with distinction in 1981. Mike retired as a Detective Sergeant from the Sheriff’s Office after 34 years of dedicated service.

Mike was determined, charming, and a friend to many. He was passionate in his convictions. He loved working on motor vehicles, almost as much as he loved driving them. Over the years, he worked in the pit crew for Precision Performance, rode motorcycles with his best buddies, and spent endless hours working on his street rods and volunteering at NHRA racing events. He loved music and was the owner and DJ of Music by Bel Air. He found great joy in listening to old songs that cultivated fond memories. Mike was fascinated by nature and spent countless hours admiring the local wildlife. He loved his family above all else, and he valued his role as provider, advisor, confidante, and friend. Mike was a devoted Grandfather that always thought of his grandchildren and was lovingly known as both Grandpa and Papa.

He is survived by his four children: Aimee (Jay) Languet of Sidney, ME, Cara (Peter) Tibbetts of Oakland, ME, Mick (Amber) Scheetz of Oxford, IA, and Nathan (Grace Allen) Scheetz of Chicago, IL; ten grandchildren: Gabrielle, Isabelle, and Noelle Languet, Grady, Maggie, Charlotte, and Sloane Tibbetts, and Samantha, Alanna, and Michael Scheetz; great-grandson, Jackson Morales; siblings: Gary (Donna) Scheetz of Oxford, Mary (Tom) Hagge of Iowa City, and Bob (Londa) Scheetz of Coralville; former wife Nancy Scheetz of Tiffin; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Debra Downes, his twin brother Patrick, infant brother Thomas, and his nephew, Brian Downes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Michael Scheetz Memorial Fund at Solon State Bank.
