Richard “Dick” Naughton was born July 12, 1939, to Gerald Naughton and Eileen Carraher Naughton. He was number two in a family that would eventually grow to eleven. He died December 18, 2023, in Peoria, Arizona after suffering a debilitating stroke in February 2023.

At the time of Dick’s birth, the family lived in DeWitt, Iowa, moving several times before settling in Holbrook, Iowa, in 1948. He attended a one-room school and in 1957, graduated from Parnell High School.

Dick and his brothers had a joyous boyhood swimming in Old Man’s Creek, catching snapping turtles and smoking cornsilk-among other things.

After high school, he proudly joined the Marine Corps, but shortly after that his dad died, and he was called home to help on the farm.

He married Sharon Saller in Parnell, and they lived in Cedar Rapids where he sold real estate. After a number of years, they divorced, and Dick moved to Arizona to join family there. He thoroughly enjoyed the warm weather and the opportunity to golf year-round.

Dick is survived by his second wife Irene M. Mabry and Irene’s three adult children: Paul Mabry, Theresa Goergen, and Linda Hennessy.

He is also survived by his ten brothers and sisters-Jack (Nola), Tom (Linda), Joe (Sonja), Dan (Shirley), Phil (Denise), Sheryl Murphy, Francine (Mike) Abboud, Theresa Cozine, Don (Deb), Randy (Sharon); many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Donna; brothers-in-law Bob Cozine and Pat Murphy; niece Erin Naughton; and nephew Shawn Murphy.

Family graveside services in Holbrook will be held at a later date. No flowers please. The family suggests memorials be given to Old St. Michaels in Holbrook, IA: “Friends of Old St. Michaels” c/o Stephan Hanson 200 W. Maple, Williamsburg, IA, 52316.
