Mary Agnes (Harney) Quinlan, 84, of Oxford passed away on October 12, 2023 at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, where visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM with the rosary recited at 3:30 PM. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Oxford. Lunch will be served in the church hall following the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mary Quinlan Memorial Fund.

Mary was born on March 6, 1939 in Holbrook, Iowa to Anthony Henry and Mary Ellen (Ford) Harney. She was known as “Tootsie” by many. Mary grew up in Holbrook and graduated from Parnell High School before attending cosmetology school. She married Gerald J. Quinlan on February 24, 1960 in Holbrook. Mary and Gerald farmed north of Oxford where together they raised their five children.

She owned and operated Tiffin Beauty Salon for more than 20 years and worked for The University of Iowa for 20 years, retiring in 2003. Devoted to her catholic faith, Mary was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. She also was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Mary was independent and lived on her own up until her final days. She was a sports enthusiast and loved watching the Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes. Mary took an active role in the lives of her grandchildren and enjoyed being a grandma and great grandma more than anything else.

She is survived by her children Tony (Marilee) Quinlan of Coralville, Bill Quinlan, Tom (Rachel) Quinlan and Katie (Jim) Villhauer, all of Oxford, and Suzy Quinlan of Iowa City; grandchildren Steven and Levi Quinlan, AJ and Jerry Quinlan, Nick (Hannah) and Wes Quinlan, Jenny Ball, and Matt, Dillon (Jordan) and Molly Villhauer, great-grandchildren Brooks, Boyd, Blayke, Donovan, Dalya, Drayce, and Bennett; sisters Jane (Keith) Olson and Elizabeth Harney; sister-in-law Rose Ann Sippy; brother-in-law Larry (Jean) Quinlan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Marjorie (Harold) Weldon, two brothers James (Anne) and John Harney, daughter-in-law Jean Quinlan, grandson Ryan Quinlan, sisters-in-law, Kathleen (Kenneth) Sippy and Eileen (Leonard) Grooms, and brother-in-law Francis Sippy.
