Jennifer V. Zaichenko, 68, of Iowa City passed away at University of Iowa Hospital on October 10, 2023.

Cremation has taken place according to her wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. LaBre Indian School in Ashland, MT.

Jennifer Zaichenko was born to Paul and Patti (née Poor) Dixon on December 7, 1954, in Fort Wayne, IN.

After graduating from Arlington Heights High School in Arlington Heights, IL, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology from The University of Iowa in 1977. Jennifer then completed Physician's Assistant training at the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, PA.

Jennifer moved to Iowa City in 1996 and worked as a Physician’s Assistant at the Community Mental Health Center for Mid-Eastern Iowa. Over the years she also held the position of P.A. at several other mental health facilities including the Department of Corrections and Meadowlark Psychiatric Services.

In 1996, Jennifer met Richard Michaelson. Over twenty-five years together, the couple served the community together providing mental health services, while enjoying their spare time together in a number of shared interests.

Jennifer’s interests included music, theater, film, antiques, and gardening.

Jennifer was always excited to contribute to environmental causes, the plight of underserved populations, and animal rights.

Jennifer will be best remembered as a compassionate health care provider, a woman of deep moral convictions, and a loyal friend.

Jennifer is survived by her fiancé Richard “Rick” Michaelson; sister Stephanie Alexander; and a large extended family.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her mother, Patti Dixon, and her father, Paul Dixon.
