Marjorie L. Clatterbaugh, age 93, passed away on August 21, 2004 at Washington Hosptial. Marjorie Clatterbaugh was known to many as “Marge”. She was a long time resident of Iowa City , until recent years where she resided in the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa.

There will be a gathering for family and friends on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 from 12:00 to 1:00p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service with a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. at Lensing’s. Rev. John Caldwell will officiate.

She was born July 26, 1911 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Nellie Drake. She earned a B.A. Degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and a M.A. degree from the University of Iowa. Marge was motivated to move to Iowa City so that her family could be educated at the University of Iowa.

She was employed thirty-five years in Iowa’s School Systems. Seventeen of those years she served as principal of Roosevelt School in the Iowa City Community School District.

Marge was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, the National Education Association and the Iowa State Education Association. Her professional organizations included Pi Lamda Theta national educational scholastic society, Chapter K.P.P.E.O., American Association of University Women, and past president of Altrusa Club of Iowa City.

Marge took great pride in her career in education and in the education of her sons. She was an avid reader, Hawkeye sports fan and bridge player. She also loved to follow politics, from local to international. Her grandchildren and great –grandchildren gave her special joy.

Survivors include: two sons, Dr. Kenneth C. (Linda) Clatterbaugh of Seattle, Washington and Hon. James R. (Barbara) Clatterbaugh of Owosso, Michigan; Grandsons, Jeffry (Melisa) Clatterbaugh of Canton, Michigan and Chad Clatterbaugh of Atlanta, Georgia; Great-grandsons, Mason and Lucas Clatterbaugh of Canton, Michigan.

She is predeceased by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Iowa City Children’s Library or to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
