Lucy Julianne Grommesh, 88, of Muscatine, Iowa died Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the Lutheran Homes Retirement Center in Muscatine, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 20, 2004 at 11:00am at the Dobmeier Funeral Home(503 4th St. Southeast) in Barnesville, Minnesota, with Reverand Marlin Ackerson officiating. A reception will follow the services at Hilldebrand Hall, 307 Front St. North. Burial will at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Barnesville, Minnesota.

Visitations will be held Thursday, August 19, 2004 from 4:00-8:00pm and 9:00-11:00am on Friday, August 20, 2004 at Dobmeier Funeral Home.

Lucy was born October 28, 1915 on her family farm in Barnesville, Minnesota, the daughter of Hubert and Christina (Lander) Grommesh. She graduated valedictorian in 1933 from Barnesville High School. Lucy attended college from 1933-1939 at State Teachers College in Moorhead, Minnesota and graduated with honors and third in her class with a Bachelors degree in Education and a minor in German. Lucy taught at several high schools after college such as Perm from 1939-1943, Litchfield from 1943-1944 and Mobridge, South Dakota from 1944-1945.

In 1945 Lucy became a civilian employee stationed in Germany during World War II. She had several positions during her years overseas such as an Administrative Aide in Caserta, Italy from 1946-1947, Information Specialists in Berlin, Germany where she reported on the war from 1947-1948 and finally Administrative Officer in Nuremberg, Germany from 1948-1950 where she was responsible for the book of records of the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials.
After the war Lucy suffered from severe distress and returned to her home in Barnesville until 1952. Lucy then moved to Chicago and worked as an Editorial Assistant for a medical publication until 1964. Lucy taught at the Central YMCA Community College from 1964-1969. In 1971 she moved to Glenview, Illinois to help her sister, Marcella raise her niece, Jennifer. In 1975 Lucy traveled to Egypt, and Greece with religious friends. Again in 1980 she traveled to Egypt and Jordan to see religious sites. In 1982 she moved to Dogwood Hills, South Carolina to live at the PTL club where she became an ordained Minister until 1997.

Unable to live alone, Lucy moved to Muscatine, Iowa at the bequest of her sister, Rosie to the Lutheran Homes Retirement Center. Lucy was a lifelong member of the Republican Party, the 700 Club, and Morris Cerullo Ministries.

Lucy is survived by one brother Ralph Grommesh of Barnesville, Minnesota; one brother-in-law, Roy Kintz of Coralville, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Irene Grommesh of Fargo, North Dakota; six nephews and one niece, John Kintz and his wife Cathy and Wayne Kintz all of Coralville, Iowa; William Grommesh and his wife Deb, David Grommesh and his wife Kristin, and Greg Grommesh, all of Barnesville, Minnesota; Jeff Grommesh and his wife Sue of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Jennifer Paolinelli and her husband Bob of Elgin, Illinois; 11 great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Joseph and two sisters, Rose Marie Kintz and Marcella Grommesh-Peterson; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Grommesh.
