Irene L. Wetter Berry-Kisker, of Walden Place in Iowa City, died Sunday, August 15, 2004 at Crestview Care Center in West
Branch, Iowa after 99 wonderful years

Irene chose to be cremated. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, August 20, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with Reverend Bob Welsh officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in Ann Arbor, Michigan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Mercy Hospital Music Therapy Fund, the American Cancer Society or Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 423 S. Fourth Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 48104.

Irene was born February 2, 1905 in St. Louis, the daughter of William and Sophia (Hammacher) Hohlenkamp. The family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1912. Irene graduated from Ann Arbor High School and attended the University of Michigan School of Music to study piano performance. She married George A. Wetter February 13, 1931. She was a buyer of women’s apparel for department stores in Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois, where they made their home. They retired to Ft. Lauderdale where George Wetter died in 1975.

Irene was very active in Chicago with the North Shore Women’s Club, Music Study Group and volunteered at the hospital as a nurse’s aid. She directed choirs in Ft. Lauderdale and Chicago and was also active in several music groups. On February 21, 1979 she married George Berry in Ft. Lauderdale. The couple moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan before moving to Iowa City in 1987 where George Berry died in 1989. Irene moved to Walden Place in Iowa City in 1992. She married Carl Kisker on February 5, 1994. Carl died very suddenly in September of that year.

Irene belonged to the University Club in Iowa City. She carried on with her music and again directed a choir at Walden Place. She enjoyed traveling and visited many foreign countries as well as the United States. She was an active member of the Bethlehem Church in Ann Arbor and Chicago. Irene’s family and extended family and friends were all a very important part of her life.

Survivors include a niece, Jean Kretzschmar and her family, Jim and his wife Julie and sons Matthew, Kristopher, Britt and Chad; Jane and her husband John Worstell, all of Iowa City and Coralville; Randy and his wife Susan, their son Alex, daughter Katie, of Hartland, Wisconsin; step-daughters Joyce Berry of New York City and Carol Fremlin and her husband Bob of San Francisco; step-son Dr. Thomas Kisker and his wife Mary Ann and their family; step-son Dale Kisker and his wife Lindy and their family; great-nieces and nephews, Bob and Nancy Koch, Kim and Steve Pawloski and Shelly and Don DeNeve and their children and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Melvin Hohlenkamp, a sister, Ruth (Hohlenkamp) Rash and a niece Betty Jane (Hohlenkamp) Koch.
