Virginia M. “Ginny” O’Malley, 73, of 3016 Stanford Avenue in Iowa City, died July 15, 2004 at home following an extended illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Very Reverend Rudolph T. Juarez officiating. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday with a parish rosary 7:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or Iowa City Hospice.

Ginny was born September 15, 1930 in Dawson, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Mary (Monahan) Anderson. Ginny graduated from Dawson High School and attended the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota. She married William O’Malley on September 13, 1952 in Perry, Iowa.

Ginny performed secretarial duties at the former St. Patrick’s Grade School and later at various departments within The University of Iowa. She was a long time member of St. Patrick’s parish, serving on the Parish Council and also as a Eucharistic Minister. Virginia was a loving mother, wife and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband Bill; two daughters, Catherine Lynch & her husband Pat of Encampment, WY, and Mary Chay of Iowa City; two sons, Michael of Des Moines and Patrick & his wife Yunxia of Iowa City; grandchildren, Steve & his wife Becca, Liz, Kevin, Michelle and Brian Lynch of Encampment, WY; Malinda, Ryan and Shawna O’Malley and Nick, Eric, and Angela Chay all of Iowa City; sisters in law, Maureen Anderson of San Diego and Toni Anderson of Glenview, Illinois and a brother in law, James O’Malley & his wife Diane of Lodi, Wisconsin.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Vince and Jim Anderson.
