Joann R. Kendrick, 66, of 3042 Muscatine Ave. in Iowa City, died at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa on Monday, April 5, 2004 following a short illness.

A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, Illinois. There will be no visitation – Joann chose to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Joann R. Kendrick Memorial Fund. Memorials may be sent directly to Mrs. Allen Harden, 27945 Knief Road, Rock Falls, IL., 61071.

Joann was born on August 15, 1937 the daughter of Richard and Margaret (Leighton) Covel. She was raised in Rock Falls and Sterling, Illinois. She married Bobby Murphy, Sr. in 1954. The couple later divorced. Joann married Coy Kendrick March 14, 1980 in Rock Falls. Mr. Kendrick died in 1983.
Joann worked for Iowa Workforce Development, retiring in 2002. She had been a resident of Iowa City since 1992 and had previously lived in West Liberty, Iowa and Arkansas.

She is survived by:
three daughters, Debbie Ferrer and Wanda Urbina, both of Iowa City and Candy Melancon & Mike Stunes of Swisher; and one son Bobby Murphy, Jr. & his wife Suzanne of Waterloo; one brother, David R. Covel and his wife Betty of Picayune, Mississippi, one sister, Nancy Harden and her husband Allen of Rock Falls, Illinois; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Coy and a half sister Helen Earle.
