Barbara J. Corwin, 72, of 2046 Little Creek Lane Iowa City died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Mercy Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Memorial Services to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held Friday, April 9, 2004 at 11AM at the Coralville United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Williams officiating. Burial will be at a later date. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 4-7PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to the Church Music Fund or the Church Library Fund.

Barbara was born January 25, 1932 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Goldie Lant Becvar. She had attended the University of Iowa. Barbara married Jim Corwin on June 2, 1963 at the Methodist Church in Marion, Iowa.

Barbara and her husband lived in Monticello for 38 years, prior to moving to Iowa City in 1995. In Monticello, Barbara was the school librarian at Shannon and Carpenter Elementary Schools. She was a member of the United Church of Monticello and the Order of Eastern Star. In Iowa City, Barbara was a member of the Coralville United Methodist Church, where she sang in the Church choir, volunteered in the Rock and Read Program at Weber Elementary School and volunteered at the Iowa City Senior Center, where she sang in the Voices of Experience.

Barbara loved to read and had a fascination for angels, which she collected. She enjoyed watching the Hawkeye Wrestling and Women’s Basketball.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jim of Iowa City; one daughter, Janelle Roberts (Christopher), of Iowa City; one granddaughter, Cortland; her siblings, Patricia Sievers (Roger) of Gladbrook and Carl Becvar of The Colony, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
