Harry Lee Miller, 87, of 120 S. West St, North English, died Monday March 29, 2004 at English Valley Nursing Care following an extended illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 10:30am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in North English with Reverend David Hitch officiating. Burial will be at a later date in North English Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, March 31, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, North English, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in North English or Dollars for Scholars.

Harry was born January 8, 1917 in rural Millersburg, the son of Arthur and Edith Roller Miller. He was a graduate of Millersburg High School and attended Lousiana State University in Baton Rouge. On May 25, 1940 he married Francine Flanders at St. Joseph Rectory in North English.

Harry was a life long Iowa County farmer, retiring in 1981. He and his wife then moved to North English. For several years, he had been employed at the North English Creamery. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and had served on the English Valley Creamery Board. Harry enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushrooming and gardening. He had a great love for the outdoors and nature.

Harry is survived by his wife Francine of North English, his six sons; Judge John Miller and his wife Sandy of Burlington, Iowa; Robert Miller and his wife Mary of Des Moines, Iowa; Anthony Miller and his wife Aurora of Chicago, Illinois; Kenneth Miller of Berkeley, California; Michael Miller and his wife Diane and Nicholas Miller and his wife Cindy, all of Des Moines, Iowa; his five daughters, Barbara Willis and her husband Dennis of Sioux City, Iowa; Margaret Haywood and her husband Peter of Sonoma, California; Janice Gover of Naples, Florida; Mary Fisher her husband Joel of Woodbury, Minnesota; and Rosalee McNamara and her husband Tim of Kansas City, Missouri. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Fred Miller, Harold Miller, and Edwin Miller and one sister Cleone Watkins.
