Dorothy M. Sorensen, 82, Ecumenical Towers of Iowa City, formerly of West Branch, died Monday, March 29, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics surrounded by her family following a lengthy battle with cancer.

At Dorothy’s request her body was cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy was born March 3, 1922 in Harlan, Iowa, the daughter of Percy and Hazel (Dewey) Blair. She married Herbert S. Sorensen on January 18, 1941and the couple lived together in West Branch all of their married lives. Dorothy was a fifty year member of the West Branch American Legion Auxiliary. Her greatest love was her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children Spencer and his wife Marsha and their children Stephanie and Angela, all of California; Linda Kessler of Iowa City, and her children Lisa Kessler and her friend Todd Boswell and her friend of Iowa City, Amy Lynch and her husband Larry and Mike Kessler all of West Branch; Cindy Sorensen and her children Jesse and Bryce of Colorado; Don and his long-time partner Suzy and his son, Johnny, all of Davenport, and his step children, Amber and Mike; five great-grandchildren, Tessa and Garett Lynch and Joey, Brittney and Alex Kessler; her two sisters Arletha Hockett and her husband Jim; Lois Schmidt and her husband Duane; her brother Bob Blair and his wife Lois; many nieces and nephews and good friends.

Dorothy was preceded her in death by her parents and her husband.
