IN MEMORIAM

"Mrs. Lucretia Morse passed away a few days ago at her home 223 South Capitol street, Iowa City. She had uncomplainingly endured nine years of weary suffering. There are left to mourn her loss two children, Charles of Moline, Ills. and a daughter Ella of this city, and three grandchildren, who will miss her cheerful smile and loving words of counsel. Her husband and one son had precede her to the better world some years ago. The last ten years of her life were spent in this city, where she was dearly loved by a large circle of friends. had she lived until the 10th of April, she would have been 78 years of age.
It was a long life, spent in doing good and in acts of kindness. During her long period of suffering, even when it was at its greatest, she ever met each and all with a kind word and a pleasant greeting. It was often wondered how one so kind, so patient, so thoughtful of others should herself be the bearer of so great burden of physical pain.
The daughter, who cared for her through the long illness, and the loving, dutiful grandson, who loved her so dearly, the fireside is lonely indeed and home is not the same the dear, patient mother has been called away. But the Great Comforter of all suffering humanity will comfort them in their time of affliction, and at the last great day they look to a reunion in that beautiful home not made with hands, where pain and sorrow shall not enter and where there shall be no parting." --Iowa State Press, Jan. 14, 1903
