Earl J. Rogers, 61 of 1504 Ridge Street in Iowa City, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 in his home after a brief battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 AM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Earl was born January 18, 1943 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Plas and Nellie Rogers.
He was a 1961 graduate of Regina High School in Iowa City. For 38 years, Earl was employed within the Masonry Department at the University of Iowa, retiring in April 2000.

He was a 24 year member of the National Guard 209th Medical Company. He was a proud veteran of Operation Desert Storm where he served overseas from January through May, 1991. Earl was a loving father and will be dearly missed by his family. His fun loving attitude and kind spirit rewarded him with an abundance of friends, all of whom share in this loss but may rejoice with fond memories.

Survivors include his son Michael Rogers and friend Paula Haenert of Galena, IL., two daughters, Melanie and her husband John Gibson and Melissa Rogers, all of Lisbon; one brother, Paul Rogers and his wife Rose of North Liberty; two sisters, Phyllis and her husband John Neubauer of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Karen Swantz of Iowa City. The family would also like to include long time friends, Bonnie Gilroy and family of Iowa City and Emily Northam of Iowa City, to whom the family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for all of the caring support that she provided.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents.
