Gene Kroeger, 60 local realtor and developer of Iowa City, died on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at his home in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service- 605 Kirkwood Ave. Iowa City Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16 at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City, Iowa. Gene will be cremated after the service and there will be a private family burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Gene Kroeger Memorial Fund.

Gene was born November 30, 1943 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Harris and Bernice (Riser) Kroeger. He grew up in Miles, Iowa and graduated from Miles High School. He earned his bachelor Degree in Business Administration from the University of Iowa in 1966.

He had his first job right out of college as a realtor with Jim Pearson Realtors.
In 1972, Gene founded Lepic-Kroeger, Realtors. The guiding philosophy of his new company was excellent, service to customers and community involvement. A continuous commitment to growth and quality service has propelled it to a leadership position in residential and commercial real estate. Creating a company dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Iowa Citians was Gene’s vision. Many of the finest residential neighborhoods and adjoining shopping developments are products of his endeavors. In 2000, he was named Realtor of the Year.

Gene was a great supporter of Hawkeye Sports and was very generous to local youth sports. He had a great fondness for boating and skiing. He had a passion for travel and appreciation of other cultures. Gene enjoyed walking his dogs, Kelly, Casey and Trey at City Park and the company of many friends.

He is survived by his mother, Bernice Kroeger of Iowa City, Iowa, three children; Debbie Kroeger of Ft. Myers, Florida ,Leslie Kroeger of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeff Kroeger and his wife Kedra of Wapello, Iowa, and by one brother, Kevin Kroeger of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Andrew and Jonah Smith, Emma, Seth, Ben and Megan Kroeger.
