Margaret M. Heck, 88, of 1204 2nd Avenue died Saturday, March 13, 2004 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family following a brief illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 10AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Rev. Rudolph Berndt officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7PM, Tuesday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service where the National Catholic Society of Foresters will recite a rosary at 5:30PM. Memorials may be directed to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

Margaret was born December 22, 1915 in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Anna TeBockhorst Escher. She married Artis Heck on April 10, 1947 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond, Iowa. He died January 18, 1977.

Margaret was raised on her parents farm in Washington County, where she attended Holy Trinity Catholic School. In 1960, she and Artis moved the family to Iowa City. For many years she was employed by the Iowa City Community School District as a cook at Southeast Junior High School.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. Margaret enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and attending Iowa City Community Theatre. Crossword and picture puzzles, reading novels and playing cards were great pastimes for her. Margaret was a friend to many. Her sweet spirit and heart embraced those who knew her.

Margaret is survived by her two sons,
Kenneth Heck and his wife Myra of Iowa City, Iowa
Stephen Heck of Iowa City
Her Daughter in Law, Peg Heck of Iowa City
One brother, Giles Escher and his wife Eileen of Washington
Five Grandchildren, Timothy, David, Jill, Travis and Joshua
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Randall and one brother, Claude
