Funeral services for Irene Moes, 101, of Pella and formerly of Sully, were held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 22, 2024, at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home, Pella. Memorials are designated for ReFrame Ministries (formerly Back to God Ministries) and Wesley Life (to be designated for Fairhaven East). Interment was in Sully Cemetery.
Irene J. (DeRuiter) Moes was born north of Lynnville on June 17, 1923, to Arie and Hermina (Zuidema) DeRuiter. She spent her childhood on the family farm and attended Black Oak #7 Country School through the eighth grade. Feb. 12, 1946, she was united in marriage to William Moes at the family home. To this union, four children were born: Marlene Rae, Gwendolyn Sue, Dennis Eugene, and Wm Kelly. Irene made her profession of faith in Sully Christian Reformed Church and became a faithful member. She was a charter member of Golden Hour Society and was active in helping with other activities. For many years, she enjoyed singing with a ladies’ ensemble group from Sully Christian Reformed Church where she attended. After their marriage, they began farming on the Moes family farm. This was their home for the next 15 years. Then in 1961, they began a partnership with Sully Plumbing Heating and A/C until 1972 when they formed their own private business of Bill Moes Plumbing Heating and A/C. Irene worked in the office of their business. Taking care of her family was a joy for her along with working on her yard with her flowers. After retiring, Bill and Irene did a lot of traveling and spent their winters in Texas.
July 1, 2011, Irene became a resident of Fair Haven East in Pella. In December 2023 at the age of 100, she made the move to The Cottages in Pella where she was cared for by a loving staff until her death. Irene passed away there on July 18, 2024, at the advanced age of 101. She will be cherished by her four children and their families: Marlene (Paul) De Jong of Pella, Gwendolyn (Marvin) Dunsbergen of Kellogg, Dennis (Kathy) Moes of Lebanon, MO, and Wm Kelly (DeNeil) Moes of Kellogg.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband William; sisters Wilma (Glen) Van Steenwyk and Elise (Frank) Baarda; and a brother Teunis (Jeanette) De Ruiter; her in-laws Lammert and Cornelia Moes, Elizabeth (Joe) Vos, Wilma (Ed) Sparks, Jennie and Cornelia Moes, Gertrude (Dick) Pleima, Ralph (Evelyn) Moes, and Donald (Arlene) Moes.
