Gilbert Van Wyk, 91, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024. Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 9, at Sully First Reformed Church. Memorials may be given to Iowa River Hospice or Newton Village.  Gilbert Van Wyk was born Feb. 9, 1933, to Henry G. and Clara (Ver Steegt) Van Wyk on a farm south of Lynnville.
Gilbert met Marlene Dykstra before he entered the reserves in 1953 and then dated in 1955 after he returned from Korea. Feb. 15, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marlene at Third Reformed Church in Pella. To this union, they were blessed with two children Denise Kay and Loran Eugene. Gilbert farmed near Lynnville.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children Denise (David) Roose of Pella and Loran (Pat) Van Wyk of Newton and their children Andrea Van Wyk and Erica (Joe) Pepe. He is also survived by his brother Gary (Dena) Van Wyk; sister Margaret Ann Coop; sisters-in-law Vi Van Wyk, and Evelyn (Robert) Van Dyke; and many nieces and nephews.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife Marlene, parents Henry and Clara Van Wyk, parents-in-law Abram and Gertrude Dykstra, brother Orville Van Wyk, sister Mildred Bogaards, brother-in-law Newton Coop, and four nieces and nephews.
