Dennis Zylstra, 75, of Lynnville, passed away  Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, at Montezuma Specialty Care in Montezuma.  Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 16, at Lynnville Friends Church. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 15, at the FCC Building in Lynnville beginning at noon with the family present 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be determined at a later date.
Dennis Alan Zylstra was born  Nov. 22, 1948, in Oskaloosa, to Ludolph and Joann Lanser Zylstra.  He attended school at Sully Christian and Lynnville-Sully. Dec. 20, 1968, Denny was united in marriage to Dorothy “Dot” Lewis at Sully Christian Reformed Church.  To this union, two children were born, Kara and Matthew. Denny worked construction and drove truck for many years. He worked for Lynnville Seed Company and Poweshiek County before opening Lynnville Repair, which was later taken over by his son. Denny enjoyed working and restoring vehicles and race cars, as well as building stick bird houses and other houses and businesses. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids.   Denny was a member of Lynnville Friends Church, Lynnville Lions Club, and also served as Lynnville Mayor. Denny loved everyone, everyone loved him, and he was a wonderful friend to many.
Denny’s memory will be honored by his wife Dot of Lynnville; his children Kara (Joel) Vander Beek of Pleasant Hill and Matthew (Heather) Zylstra of Lynnville; grandchildren Noah (Ashley) Zylstra, Lakewood, CO, Sage Zylstra, Lynnville, Shykira Baarda, Pleasant Hill, Camden Baarda, Pleasant Hill, Lily Zylstra, Lynnville, and Teryn and Jaxden Vander Beek of Pleasant Hill; great-grandchildren Eleanor  and Murphy Zylstra, Lakewood, CO; brother Terry (Linda) Zylstra, Steger, IL; sisters Fonda (Dave) Benson, Grinnell, and Joani (Norvel) Hasley, Hiawassee, GA; brother-in-law, Don (Shirley) Lewis; sisters-in-law Millie Van Solen and Phyl (Bruce) Beierle; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karma Lisk; and in-laws, Dean and Retha Lewis.
