Glen Lester Gilpin, 84, of Victoria and formerly of Newton, Iowa, died Sunday, May 13, 2001.
He was born April 11, 1917, in Laporte, Minn., to the late M. L. and Iva McBride Gilpin. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps, serving in WWII. He received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Minnesota and attended the University of Northern Iowa. He was a retired school teacher and a member of First Christian Church. He was also a member of Lone Tree Volunteer Fire Department, National Education Association and Iowa State Education Association.
Survivors: wife, Hazel Gilpin; daughter, Susan Melcher of Grinnell, Iowa and Kathleen Cronin of Newport News, Va.; step-daughter, Star Beth Gunter of Kingsville; son, John Gilpin of Woodland Park, Colo.; stepsons, Dwayne Dawlearn of Rosenberg, Thomas Dawlearn of Edna and Anthony Dawlearn of Houston; sister, Nita Rose of Bemidji, Minn.; brothers, Orville Gilpin of Kenosha, Wis. and Raymond Gilpin of Panama City, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: first wife, Alice Gilpin; two sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation will be after the services Thursday at the First Christian Church in Newton, Iowa.
Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the church, the Revs. John Epperson and Gene Bryant officiating.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. Victoria Mortuary Service, Victoria, 361-578-4646.
